My phone is asking for a PUK code?

my friends were playing around with my phone and thought they knew how to crack my password on it. I don't know what they did or what happened but now its locked and asking me for a PUK code? What is that and where would I find it on my phone?

The PUK code is your Personal Unblocking Key which is an eight digit code specific to your SIM card.

You will need to contact your service provider to obtain this number and then enter it into your phone.
